About: Ted Noten has been experimenting with the technology of 3D printing for quite some time. What’s more, the notion of reproduction has increasingly featured in his oeuvre, especially since his project Haunted by 36 Women.
In the series Paper Replicas, around a hundred of the works produced over the last 10 years have been 3D printed in yellow paper. The series was exhibited for the first time in June 2015 as part of his solo Exhibition Non Zone in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
This monotone series of reproductions are an iconic example of the mindset of the artist as we know it today. What is value? What is originality? What is the difference between an original and a reproduction? Isn’t art always a reproduction of an idea or a perception? These are questions that preoccupy Ted Noten.
The series comes with an the animantion Sgr A*, showcasing a universe of 3d renderings.Photo and video credits:Atelier Ted Noten (product photography) Lotte van Stekelenburg (photography The Yellow Room)
