Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Rotterdam Ahoy are joining forces for a unique Boijmans drive-thru exhibition. Visitors can drive an electric car through Hall 1 of Rotterdam Ahoy, where more than fifty high-profile works of art from the museum collection are on display, from 1 to 23 August.
In response to the corona crisis, which prevented visits to many concert halls and museums, this pilot project opens up space for a new art experience within one and a half meters of reality.
The exhibition is based on an idea by Ted Noten, artist and designer of jewelery. In addition to a number of world-famous works from the Boijmans Van Beuningen collection, the exhibition also features installations by contemporary artists. Together they turn Rotterdam into an art city outside the museum walls and encourage the visitor to think about people and the environment. Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum brings together work by: Ted Noten, Oskar Kokoschka, Bas Jan Ader, Melanie Smith, Paul McCarthy, Bruce Nauman, Ugo Rondinone, Cyprien Gaillard, Joep van Lieshout, Wieki Somers, Jim Shaw and installations by Bas Princen , Trenton Doyle Hancock, Anselm Kiefer, Olaf Nicolai and Marijke van Warmerdam.
The Mondriaan Fund contributes to commissions for four artists: Marijke van Warmerdam, Bas van Beek, Frank Bruggeman and Bas Princen. The contribution serves as a pilot project for initiatives with a different art experience within one and a half meters of reality and commissioning in corona time.
Fonds 21, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Boijmans Business Club, Riwal Hoogwerken, Breeman BMW & MINI, Rotterdam Make it Happen and the Municipality of Rotterdam also contributed to the realization of the exhibition.
