Cashier Stedelijk Museum
Year of production: 2007
Materials: Video
About: The curator of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam asked Noten to consider an unusual form of presentation for his jewelry in an upcoming group exhibition. He suggested putting a ring on the hand of the cashier selling the tickets. A video camera recorded the movements of her hand from above and her conversations with the public were taped. The exhibition showed the real-time video footage and played the sound of her voice. The ring with golden pig is a playful reference to Jeff Koon’s sculpture of a pig from the museum’s collection reducing it to an everyday object. Art or just plain business?
